The North Carolina Black Law Enforcement Leadership Inaugural Symposium was held in 2021 at the International Civil Rights Museum in Greensboro. During this gathering, former Winston‑Salem Chief of Police Catrina Thompson recognized that Black law enforcement professionals were leading many towns, cities, and counties across North Carolina. The symposium brought these exceptional leaders together for fellowship, shared perspectives, service, and to honor the legacies of Black law enforcement pioneers, past and present.

In 2022, the symposium returned to Greensboro and was hosted by Sheriff Danny Rogers of the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office at the Greensboro History Museum. The event was elevated by an inspirational keynote address delivered by now United States Marshal Glen McNeil Jr.

In 2023, the symposium was held in Charlotte and hosted by Sheriff Garry McFadden of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. During the two‑day event, attendees participated in a community service project with Crisis Assistance Ministry, supporting individuals and families in need.

In keeping with Black History Month, we recognize the visionary behind the symposium, U.S. Marshal Catrina Thompson, whose leadership and foresight helped bring these gatherings to life.

NCAMPSO continues to build on this foundation of leadership, service, and collaboration, honoring the vision of those who came together to strengthen and support minority public safety professionals across North Carolina.
